I also re-implemented some old code that was causing my previous server to crash, and updated some old code to newer syntax; so everything should run smoother. Let me know if you experience any hiccups or slowdowns.

and since this is a sideblog: I plan on redesigning my sidebar/s. They’re too busy and not functioning the way I envisioned when I redesigned this blog just over a year ago. If anybody has any ideas or other sites with stylish sidebars let me know!

I think my battles with Google’s Reader are over! Embedding some media for Reader simply won’t work.

Dating back to 2006 (link) and 2007 (link), it turns out Reader has only slowly been allowing some sites to syndicate “embed” media. As recently as December 2008 (link) they’ve employed a whitelist to enforce what sites they deliver embedded videos from. To get on this list, you have to fill out this form and get approved. I don’t want to bother, but maybe you do? Fill out the form, let Google know they should allow HiBoobs embedded media in Google Reader!

(of course, all other RSS softwares allow the object and embed function for rich media to be syndicated – it’s only Google’s Reader I have troubles with! go figure!)

I’m still sifting through the code and making modifications, but my tumblr is officially online. Expect lots – no, tons! – more one-off images and smorgasbord-style photos of ladies with big boobs.

It turns out it’s part a problem of Google Reader (the ONLY reader causing problems) and part a problem of what WordPress does when I press publish. This link shows how the editor I use changes the code; at the bottom it says the most-recent version of TinyMCE fixes this, but I won’t upgrade the core files because I might break them!; some plugins say they are RSS-compliant but require too much typing to embed a simple video; and there are more plugins than I care to test.

I don’t like to rely on complex multi-file plugins just to embed video when straight embed code or javascript is sufficient. As such I’ll be sticking with using one line of PHP to call some javascript to embed each video, it’s light and quick and gives me the most control over display and function but won’t work in RSS, all users will have to visit the post for video. Sorry. Until the core code improves this is what I’m left to work with.
